Obituary

CARMEL – Daniel Robert Bates, 64, a resident of Carmel since 2012 and formerly of Mahopac, died on July 18, 2020 with his wife by his side at Putnam Hospital Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Mount Kisco on October 31, 1955. He was Head Mechanic at Stronghold Industries (formerly Craig Zottola, Inc.) in Patterson where he had worked for over 20 years.

An avid golfer and fisherman, Danny also enjoyed gardening and working on both classic and racing cars. Most of all, he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. He will also be missed by his loving companions, Ruby and Rocky.

On November 29, 1975 in Mohegan Lake, Danny married Janet (DeSalvo) Bates. His wife of 45 years survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Joseph Bates and his wife Katie Hunt of Carmel and Danielle Bates-Misicka and her husband Bill of Carmel; his grandchildren, Hunter Joseph Bates and Dallas Joseph Bates; his parents, Kenneth Martin and Edith (DeRonda) Bates, Sr.; his siblings, Roseanna Bates, Patrick Bates, Kimberly Barrows, and Jonathan Bates and his wife Jessica; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Danny was predeceased by his daughter, Jeanne Marie Bates in 2002; his brother, Kenneth Martin Bates, Jr. in 1979; and his sister, Joanne Marie Bates in 1968.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 2-5pm at 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A memorial service will be at 4:30 pm. In compliance with NYS guidelines, social distancing and face masks will be required and capacity may be limited. All attendees should be prepared for potentially extended waiting periods.

Since he loved all animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Danny’s memory to Putnam County Humane Society.
