This Year’s Annual Stuff the Bus Becomes “Shop and Drop” on July 25th!

Help Fill our Community Food Pantry Shelves!

By Susan Stone

Mid-July is traditionally a time of year when the Food Pantry shelves at the Pawling Resource Center are relatively empty. The third week of July has, for the last several years, seen the Stuff the Bus event, sponsored by Pawling Rotary, Hannaford, and the Pawling Central School District, to benefit the Pawling Resource Center Food Pantry. This year, Family Quick Stop has been added to the list of community sponsors, and Items for the PRC Food Pantry may also be purchased there. Signs at Hannaford and Family Quick Stop will provide a list of needed items for those who wish to “Shop and Drop”.

In years past, a bright yellow school bus was parked outside of Hannaford’s and generous community members would shop for needed PRC items, fill the school bus, and then all supplies would be transported to the PRC for off-loading.

Because of Covid-19, many community activities are changing in order to respect the need for social distancing, and this annual event will be among them. So, instead of collecting needed items at the store and “stuffing the bus”, the sponsors are asking that community members shop for needed items at Hannaford and Family Quick Stop, and drive them to the PRC at 126 East Main Street, where bags can be passed to volunteers or unloaded from your car. Volunteers will then transport donations to the Food Pantry, where they will be weighed and shelved.

Terry Ariano, Resource Center Executive Director, has indicated that the following items are urgently needed:

Canned chili, hash, stew

Canned fruit, especially pineapple, pears

Boxed pasta, e.g. penne, rotini, shells

Juice and juice boxes, e. g. apple, berry, etc.

Muffin and brownie mixes, and Jello

Condiments and spices, e.g salt, pepper

**Toilet Paper

** Paper towels

**Dish soap

**Laundry detergent

Hand Soap

Shampoo and conditioner
