DUTCHESS COUNTY COMPTROLLER ROBIN LOIS ISSUES UPDATED FINANCIAL REPORT ON DUTCHESS COUNTY JAIL PROJECT

Report Details All Costs and Contracts Associated with the Jail Project as of December 31, 2019

Poughkeepsie, NY – Dutchess County Comptroller Robin Lois today issued a comprehensive financial accounting of the Dutchess County Jail Project as of December 31, 2019. This report covers all phases of this project and summarizes payments made and contracts for services entered into in connection with this project through December 31, 2019.

This report serves as a follow-up to Comptroller Lois’ first report on the Jail Project in May 2018 (.pdf), part of her commitment to increase transparency in Dutchess County Government and ensure accountability to the taxpayers.

“As this capital project is the largest ever undertaken by Dutchess County Government it is rightly a project of great concern to the taxpayers, particularly during these uncertain times. I feel it is important to keep everyone informed as to the spending, vendor contracts, and construction timeline throughout the project,” said Comptroller Robin Lois. “I hope that taxpayers will find this report helpful in visualizing the project and understanding where their tax dollars are being spent. My office will continue to monitor this project by auditing the daily vendor payments and reviewing the contracts entered into by the administration as they manage its construction.”

As of December 31, 2019, $57.6 million has been spent on all phases of the project with a remaining $146 million approved and available to spend. Notably, the Justice and Transition Center’s (Jail) design has been downsized from its original 569 bed design to 328 beds. The new design was approved by the New York State Commission of Corrections on April 28, 2020. The current timeline for construction is to begin December 2020 and complete April 2024.
