Local Student Volunteers for Annual MathCounts Day at SUNY Delhi

DELHI, NY (04/24/2020)– Stephanie Melchor Recinos, of Patterson (Pawling High School) was one of nine students who volunteered for the Annual MathCounts day at SUNY Delhi in February of 2020. Melchor Recinos is pursuing a degree in Event Management at the college.

MathCounts is a national program that promotes math learning in Grades 6-8. SUNY Delhi has been the hosting site of Catskills/Broome Regional Competition since 1998. Every year Middle schools from Ithaca, Syracuse, and Binghamton areas bring students of talent and enthusiasm to participate in multiple rounds of math questions in algebra, spatial and quantitative reasoning. When Assiciate Professor of Mathematics Joan Erickson joined the MathCounts team in 2005, she began to coordinate SUNY Delhi students as volunteers to better work with the visiting children, coaches, and parents.

SUNY Delhi’s hands-on approach to teaching and learning includes over 60 academic programs in specialized areas, including applied technologies, nursing, hospitality, veterinary sciences, applied sciences, business, and liberal arts and sciences. SUNY Delhi offers certificates, associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, as well as master’s degrees in a combination of on-campus and online settings.
