Senator Pete Harckham’s Office Targets Bullet Aid for the Pawling Library
The Pawling Library has received a Bullet Aid Grant from Senator Harckham’s office. The grant, totaling $13,889, will be used to make facility improvements and enhance programming needs
.The majority of the Bullet Aid funds will be used to upgrade and renovate the library’s annex with new flooring in the community room. This should not only make the annex a safer place for those who experience mobility issues but will also make it much easier to clean the space quickly between library programs. Additionally, blackout shades will be installed to make it easy to adjust the level of light. “This will save a tremendous amount of staff time, since presently, before each weekly Monday Matinee program, we use cardboard and tape to block out light and then circle back after the movie to undo our work,” stated Brian Avery, Library Director. The annex hosts programs for patrons of all types and ages, from ESOL courses to kid science club to computer classes for seniors.
In addition to the improvements to the Annex, a portion of the Bullet Aid will be devoted to programs and events. Mr. Avery added, “Having these additional program funds means that we will be able to purchase all necessary supplies for our ongoing programs and still have enough money to pay outside presenters to bring their expertise to our library.”
Finally, funds from this grant will be used to replace staff computers which are used extensively at the circulation desk and have recently started exhibiting problems.
The Pawling Library director and trustees seek grants which serve to provide needed funds for facility and program enhancements that are then provided at no cost to Pawling taxpayers. This represents the sixth grant the library has received in 2019.
