**Update – September 3, 2019

Wappinger, New York –  On September 2, 2019 at approximately 7:32 p.m., Troopers from SP Wappinger were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to an unknown type of disturbance at a residence located at 22 Marlorville Road, in the town of Wappinger.

Upon arrival, the Troopers located the caller, standing in the roadway stating the suspect, Christopher DeMilio, age 47, was inside with two children.

As Troopers approached the home, the suspect let the two children out the front door of the residence, then went back inside.

Once back in the home, the suspect fired multiple shots at patrols from a second-floor window, and then through the front door, one of the rounds grazing the arm of one of the responding Troopers.

Troopers were able to secure the children from the residence, and get to a safe location.

A perimeter was established around the home and State Police Crisis Negotiators arrived, and started negotiations with the suspect.

Negotiations continued for several hours with DeMilio continuing to fire rounds within the residence.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., DeMilio surrendered and was taken into custody by members of the State Police Special Operations Response Team.

DeMilio is charged with five counts of Attempted Murder in the 1st degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree.  DeMilio was arraigned before the town of Wappinger Court, and remanded without bail to the Dutchess County Jail.  He is due to reappear in court on September 9, 2019, at 5:00 p.m.

The Trooper grazed by a bullet was treated and released from Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Two additional Troopers were treated and released for minor injuries.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Village of Wappingers Falls Police, MTA Police, Town of Fishkill Police, and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response.
