State Police conduct underage drinking initiative in Dutchess County

Dutchess County, New York – On Saturday, April 27, 2019, the State Police conducted plain-clothes checks of sixteen retail locations in Dutchess County that sell alcohol to ensure their compliance with New York State’s Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Law.  The enforcement initiative resulted in the arrest of two individuals for violations of the ABC Law.

Donald Millard, age 22, of Pawling, NY, an employee of Family Quick Stop, 8 West Main Street, Pawling, was arrested for Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage, a class A misdemeanor.  Millard was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the village of Pawling Court on May 9, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

Norberto Juarez-Mendoza, age 35, of Amenia, New York, an employee of Shell Gas Station, 5330 Route 343, Amenia, NY, was arrested for Prohibited Sale of an Alcoholic Beverage, a class A misdemeanor.  Juarez-Mendoza was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Amenia Court on May 7, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

According to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, underage drinking is associated with the three most common causes of death among youth, including accidental deaths (e.g., car crashes), homicides, and suicides.  The State Police will continue to conduct underage drinking enforcement details statewide in order to protect the citizens of NYS and its youth.

Fourteen additional establishments in Millerton, Amenia, Dover, and Pawling were checked, and found to be in compliance.
