RECENT IMPAIRED/INTOXICATED DRIVER ARRESTS

Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. reports recent intoxicated/impaired driver arrests made by members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. On April 17, 2019, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Deputy Kevin Radovich, responding to a report of a black jeep being driven erratically, observed the jeep on Doansburg Road, in the Town of Patterson. Deputy Radovich detected the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle’s driver, Edwin Santos, age 32, of Pawling, was driving while his ability to drive was impaired by drugs. In addition, the investigation revealed that Mr. Santos was in possession of alleged Concentrated Cannabis and Marijuana. Mr. Santos was placed under arrest and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Ability Impaired by Drugs (Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), and Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 5th Degree (Class B Misdemeanor). Mr. Santos was released on his own recognizance, pending a future court date in the Town of Patterson Justice Court.

On April 20, 2019, at approximately 12:07 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Shane Rossiter observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation on State Route 22, in the Town of Patterson. Deputy Rossiter initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle. Upon interviewing the vehicle’s driver, Carlos Diaz, age 38, of Waterbury, Connecticut, Deputy Rossiter observed an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Mr. Diaz. Deputy Rossiter also detected the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, at multiple times, Deputy Rossiter instructed Mr. Diaz to exit the vehicle, in order for Deputy Rossiter to initiate field sobriety tests. Mr. Diaz refused to exit the vehicle and was eventually placed under arrest. In addition, it was also revealed that the vehicle’s passenger, Kevin McDonough, age 33, of Waterbury, Connecticut, was in possession of concentrated cannabis, marijuana, and hypodermic needles with an amount of glassine envelopes. Mr. McDonough was also placed under arrest. Both Mr. Diaz and Mr. McDonough were transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for arrest processing. Mr. Diaz was processed and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor), Driving While Intoxicated-Operating a motor vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Content of .08 or more, (Misdemeanor), Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), and Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor). Mr. McDonough was processed and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (Violation). Both men are scheduled to appear in the Town of Patterson Justice Court, at a future date and time.
