Obituary, John R. Duncan

John R. Duncan, 40, of Hyde Park, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at his home.  Born on October 25, 1978 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of John R. Duncan and Eileen Donnelly Duncan.  Surviving are his mother, Eileen Duncan of Hyde Park; his father and stepmother John R. and Donna Duncan of Millbrook, NY; a brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Amy Duncan, a niece and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.  John attended Millbrook High School, was in National Honor Society and went on to graduate from Syracuse University with a Bachelors Degree in Television, Radio and Film and a minor in Music.   He spent much of his time writing scripts for potential TV shows and writing music and playing his guitars.  John loved music and taught himself to play guitar while still in high school; he was part of a local band called “Mothra”.  He was in Boy Scouts of America for many years and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Calling hours will be held on Saturday April 6th, 11am to 12:30pm, at 4365 Albany Post Rd Hyde Park.   A brief memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home.  Father Patrick Curley, Pastor of St. Peters Church, Hyde Park, will officiate.  A special mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:Hyde Park Police Department, 3 Cardinal Road, Hyde Park, NY  12538. The members of this department were always very caring and kind, John considered them his friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
