ANCRAM OPERA HOUSE SEEKS VOLUNTEER SINGERS

 FOR CONCERT OF

ORIGINAL SONGS ABOUT THE ROE JAN REGION

All Ages and Backgrounds Needed – No Prior

Performance Experience Necessary

Ancram Opera House, the award-winning theatre in southern Columbia County, invites regional residents to join open rehearsals for a performance of original songs created by the songwriters of DRIVE-IN: AMERICAN FUGUE, a workshop conceived by Obie Award-winning composer/performer Heather Christian, Ancram Opera House’s 2019 Spring Artist in Residence.

The DRIVE-IN: AMERICAN FUGUE project started with a cohort of local residents collaborating on a song cycle about life in the Roe Jan region, and will culminate in a free public concert on Saturday, April 13 at 7 pm, with a reception to follow.

The songs created during the workshop will be rehearsed over five days the week of April 9-13. No prior singing experience is necessary and rehearsals, which are open to all, will take place at the Ancram Opera House, 1330 County Route 7, Ancram, NY, Tuesday – Friday, April 9-12 from 6:30-8:30 pm, and Saturday, April 13 from 1:00-5:00 pm.

A new song will be learned at each session, but volunteers do not need to attend all rehearsals. It is hoped—but not required —that anyone joining a rehearsal will perform at the April 13th showing.

Interested individuals are free to drop-in on any rehearsal; just let us know you’re coming at ancramoperahouse.org/spring-residency or by calling 518-329-0114.

The DRIVE-IN: AMERICAN FUGUE workshop and performance are part of Heather Christian’s larger work focusing on small American towns and the incredible people who live in them.

“We are so pleased to provide the launch pad for a project led by the inspiring and talented Heather Christian,” said AOH director Jeff Mousseau. “It is completely synergistic with our mission of creating opportunities for our audiences to connect through the performing arts.”
