STATEN ISLAND MAN AND PEEKSKILL WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

Putnam County Sheriff, Robert L. Langley Jr. reports the arrests of a Staten Island man and a Peekskill woman on drug possession charges. On January 25, 2019, at approximately 8:32 pm, Deputy Shane Rossiter observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation on Oscawana Lake Road, in the Town of Putnam Valley. Deputy Rossiter initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle contained Marijuana, Heroin and Hypodermic Syringes (for which no occupant provided a prescription for). Both the vehicle’s driver, James Coffey, age 25, of Staten Island, and occupant, Raven Taverna, age 28, of Peekskill, were placed under arrest. Both defendants were transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for arrest processing. Mr. Coffey was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the Fourth Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument (Class A Misdemeanor). Ms. Taverna was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Needle (Class A Misdemeanor). Both defendants were processed, issued appearance tickets, and released on $100.00 bail. Both defendants are scheduled to appear in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court, at a future date and time.
