Pawling Science Research Students Competing at Eastern JSHS 1/25-1/26/19

 

On Saturday, January 26th, 2019 Pawling High School students in the Science Research Program attended the Eastern Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School in Burnt Hills, NY. Nine students from the program were selected based on their scientific research papers to present their original research and results as PowerPoint speakers. Our students represented our community and school eloquently, competing with 17 other schools.  Karen Jackson won 3rd place in the category of Biomedical Sciences for her work with her mentor, Dr. Wang at New York Medical College, involving the ZIKA virus.  Additionally, Ellie Farquhar was awarded 1st place in the category of Behavioral Sciences for her unique study regarding the effects of mask coloration on the swimming patterns Caribbean Reef Sharks. Ellie conducted research in the Bahamas during August of 2018 with her mentor Dr. Erich Ritter. Ellie will be competing at and representing Pawling High School and the Eastern Regional JSHS as a speaker at the Upstate JSHS at SUNY Albany on March 27th and 28th of 2019!
