Obituary, Augustine Michael Baldino, Sr. (“Augie”)

Augustine Michael Baldino, Sr. (“Augie”) of Pawling, NY, passed away quickly, painlessly, and peacefully on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Putnam Ridge Rehab in Brewster, NY.  He was 77 years old, the 3rd son of Joseph Baldino, Sr. and Kantella Infantino Baldino.

Born December 8, 1940 in a house in Patterson, NY, where he lived 5 years before becoming a Pawling resident for over 72 years, in a town he loved growing up in, with lifelong friends and memories, and where he knew almost all the community.

Growing up in the family home on Walnut Street, he, with his brothers, cousins, and friends, loved sledding down the streets in the snow “in those days”, skating on village ponds, building go-carts and racing down the hills, and catching minnows in the village brooks.  Both parents worked, so the brothers together, after school, started preparing and cooking the suppers for the family evening meals.

Augie was a young water boy for the Pawling High School football team, and was always involved until he could play on the team.  He played center guard position and loved those years with Coach Jim Garrett and his football team buddies, which he always talked about his whole life.

Before retiring, Augie worked 42 years as a bank records manager for the former Chemical Bank which later merged with JP Morgan Chase in Pawling.

Like his brothers, he loved working on cars.  He sang with the music of the 50’s and country music songs.  He loved hanging with his friends, through graduation in June 1959, and everyday thereafter.

Augie was a member and Past President of the Pawling Fish & Game Association, a member of the Pawling Lions Club at Murrow Park, a member of the Pawling Fire Department, and a past member of the Dutchess County Federation.  He was also an active member and Trustee of the Pawling United Methodist Church.

Besides being an avid football, baseball, NASCAR, and Yankee fan, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.  For many years he was on a Pawling Bowling League and played men’s baseball for “The 35 and Over” Pawling team.

Augie was predeceased by his parents, his brother Tom Baldino of Pawling, and his beloved son, Augustine M. Baldino, Jr. of Pawling.

He is survived by his older brother, Joseph Baldino of Florida, his younger brother, Anthony Baldino of Wingdale, his companion and partner of 39 years, Holly Eldredge of Pawling, his daughter, Barbara Murphy of South Carolina, his grandson, Kristopher Corbisello, also of South Carolina, and several Baldino nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Augie was a friend to so many, in and around Pawling, and all of Dutchess County.

His greatest reward is to be reunited with his son Augie, Jr, his parents, brother Tom, other family members, and his Best Friends Forever, Martino, Bauers, Brill, Elwell, Mitchell, Kubik, Sage, Cersosimo, Mackey, Stufano, and Capalbo, just to mention a few.

A wake will be held on Wednesday, October 17th from 4-8 PM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling.  The Lions Club will conduct a service at the funeral home at 6:30 PM, followed by a Firematic service at 7 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, October 18th at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the Pawling United Methodist Church in Memory of Augustine M. Baldino.
