Obituary, Albert Rivoire

Fort Collins – Albert Rivoire, 94, of Fort Collins, died Friday, September 28, 2018. He was born November 30, 1923 in Pawling, NY to John Louis and Annie Rivoire (née MacKenzie). He was raised in Pawling, the youngest of four children, and graduated from Pawling High School in 1940.

Al enrolled at Cornell University in 1942 and was then drafted into service for World War II in 1943. He served with the 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolves) in Europe. This division was responsible for the April 11, 1945 liberation of the Nordhausen concentration camp. Al was awarded the Bronze Star during his service in WWII. Following the war, he returned to Cornell and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in electrical engineering. Following graduation, he was drafted into service for the Korean War, during which he served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1953.

While at Cornell he met fellow student, Betty Rae Hyland, and on April 30, 1954 they married. Al and Betty raised their family in North Syracuse, NY, where they lived for 40 years before moving to Fort Collins. They were married for 55 years.

Al was an electrical engineer for the Speno Rail Services Company (East Syracuse, NY) for 37 years, and was recognized throughout the United States and Canada for his innovations in railroad service.

Al is survived by his children, Linda Rivoire of Las Vegas, NV and Stephen (Becky) Rivoire of Fort Collins; grandchildren, Michael (Victoria) Rivoire of Fort Collins, Laura Lombardo (Judson Brown) of Orange, CA, Christopher Rivoire of Fort Collins and Hayley Blish of Las Vegas, NV; great-grandchildren, Mabel Brown of Orange, CA and Hendrik Rivoire of Fort Collins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rivoire, his son, Bruce Rivoire, his brothers, Kenneth and John Rivoire, his sister, Anne Rivoire and his loyal, well-loved canine companion, Jetta.

A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church, 301 E. Drake Rd., Fort Collins.
