Obituary, Reginald Leslie Haight

Reginald Leslie Haight, 93, Pine Plains, NY, passed away September 8, 2018 at home under the care of Hospice with family by his side. He and his wife lived their entire lives in the Hudson Valley as part of the farming community. In the 1970s, they settled in the beautiful valley on Tripp Road, in Millerton, NY.

He was born September 6, 1925 in the family home in Verbank, NY, the son of the late Douglas Haight and Mabel Woodruff Haight. He attended numerous one-room schoolhouses in Verbank, Millbrook and Millerton.
On April 12, 1950, he married Maude Morrison in front of the Justice of the Peace in Millbrook, NY. She pre-deceased him August 29, 2017.

Reginald “Reggie” or “Jake” as he was widely known, worked his entire life in the valley, from making eclairs at the local bakery in Millerton (for a dollar a day) to turkey farming, logging, a stable worker at Bennett College, and a farmer. He loved working around the house and was always creative in fixing something even when it didn’t seem possible to fix. Jake was the happiest when driving his tractor brush hogging or working his backhoe. Something he did up until the last month of his life.

He is survived by his two sisters, Vivian Costine, Highland, NY and Evelyn Boeckels, NJ and his sister-in-law, Eileen M. Moore, Pine Plains, NY.

Besides his sisters, survivors include several nieces and nephews: Leonard (Patty) Morrison, Millerton, NY; Lana Morrison, Millerton, NY; Stacey L. Moore, Pine Plains, NY; Bryan T.
