Dutchess County 2018 Historic Tavern Trail

Rendezvous at Millerton American Legion Post
on Friday, September 21st

Poughkeepsie, NY… The Dutchess County 2018 Historic Tavern Trail series finale event will be held on Friday, September 21st from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Millerton American Legion Post located at 155 Route 44 in Millerton. As this year’s series wraps up the focus “Remembering the Great War: From the Western Front to the Home Front,” the evening’s program will examine the experiences of two Dutchess County men killed in action on the Western front and how their sacrifices led to the formation of the American Legion immediately following the war.

The Historic Tavern Trail brings history and local cuisine together, while introducing the community to iconic locales, with each installment held at a different historic location. The agenda includes a picnic-style dinner and the reading of a postcard sent September 21, 1918 offering insights into the thoughts of Dutchess County soldiers as the war drew to a close. There will also be a special screening of a video from the Dutchess County Historical Society, which will also have their traveling exhibit on display.

The Tavern Trail is a collaborative endeavor between the Dutchess County Department of History, the Dutchess County Historical Society, and local historical societies to create an innovative program that highlights the county’s rich history.

Reservations can be made online at www.meetup.com/DutchessTavernTrail, tickets are $20 per person. All proceeds benefit the Millerton American Legion Post and the North East Historical Society. The Tavern Trail Series generally sells out, so be sure to RSVP! Additional event details are available at www.facebook.com/DutchessTavernTrail.
