State Police in Wappinger investigate fatal crash

Wappinger, New York – On August 29, 2018, the New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks began investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on U.S. Highway 9 (State Route 9) near Old Hopewell Road in the town of Wappinger.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Troopers patrolling Route 9 in the area of Old Hopewell Road observed a car versus pedestrian-motor vehicle collision.  Initial investigation suggests Graciela N. Gonzalez, age 30, of Wappinger, attempted to cross Route 9 from the west shoulder in an easterly direction.  The operator of a white 2007 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on Route 9 through a green light signal at the intersection with Old Hopewell Road, failed to observe Gonzalez, and subsequently struck her.  Gonzalez was pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics.

There are no criminal charges at this time.
