Obituary, Edith Mary Murphy Loeffler

Edith Mary Murphy Loeffler, 92, of Poughquag, NY, passed away on August 21, 2018 in Charlotte, NC.

Memorial services are planned for later this fall in New York and Vermont.

Edie was born in Jamaica, NY, to Edith Mary (Higgins) and Alexander Noble Mackay on October 23, 1925. She attended Richmond Hill High School in NY and was a graduate of Berkeley Secretarial School (NY). She married William John Murphy III on November 3, 1945. Following Mr. Murphy’s death in 1973, she married Frank R. Loeffler, Sr. on September 18, 1982. After her children were grown, Edie worked as church secretary at the Bellmore Presbyterian Church (Bellmore, NY) and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (Farmingdale, NY). After retiring to Poughquag NY, she volunteered for many years at the Beekman Public Library.

Edie is preceded in death by both her husbands, William Murphy and Frank Loeffler; her parents, Edith Higgins Mackay and Alexander Mackay; and her brother, John Alexander Mackay.

She is survived by her children, Linda Ellen Weisbruch (Craig) of Charlotte, NC, Robert Allan Murphy I (Pamela Byrne) of Cornwall-on-Hudson, and William Allan Murphy Sr. (Regina Walsh) of Park Ridge, NJ; her stepchildren, Cheryl Loeffler Lodewick (Kevin) and Frank Loeffler Jr. (Marie); her grandchildren, Robert Murphy II, Michael Murphy, Timothy Murphy, William Murphy Jr., and Christopher Murphy; her step grandchildren, Kevin Lodewick II, Adam Lodewick and Andrew Lodewick; her great grandchildren, Lilie Shea Murphy, Robert Murphy III and Mackenzie Murphy; and her step great grandchildren, Stella Lodewick, Talia Lodewick, Kevin Lodewick III, Reese Lodewick, Ryan Lodewick and Morgan Lodewick.

Memorials may be given to the Beekman Public Library (11 Town Centre Blvd, Beekman NY 12570) and Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region (7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte NC 28226).
