Faso Highlights FDA Approval of Generic EpiPen Auto-Injector

Kinderhook, NY – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today highlighted the Federal Drug Administration’s approval of a generic epinephrine auto-injector. Rep. Fasohad written to FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb in May asking for what steps would be taken to expand access to generic auto-injectors to lower costs for American consumers and prevent shortages in the U.S. market. At the time, the FDA had just added epinephrine auto-injectors to the FDA’s list of existing drug shortages.

“Earlier this year, I was alerted to a shortage of various epinephrine auto-injectors in New York State’s Hudson Valley and Catskill regions,” said Faso. “These live saving devices are critical for so many people in Upstate New York who suffer from serious allergic reactions. I’m glad to see the FDA approve additional effective and safe devices that will lower costs for consumers and expand access.”
