John Faso Still Failing Us on Healthcare

KINGSTON, NEW YORK – In a July 25 story in the Washington Post, John Faso continued to twist reality by saying he is “comfortable” with taking the “incremental” steps he and Washington Republicans have pursued since his vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). His vote would have stripped away health insurance from millions of Americans for no reason other than to create a huge tax giveaway to the wealthiest one percent. An “incremental” step he describes, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), was held hostage and wrongly used as a bargaining tool by Republicans while negotiating terms of the budget.

“After voting to take away our healthcare, John Faso now thinks he can gaslight us on the issue. The true result of Faso’s vote for the American Health Care Act (AHCA), as well as the result of the Republican’s tax plan, is that our premiums go up. Quality healthcare becomes unaffordable. This is a sorry attempt at a distraction from the reality of what Faso’s vote to repeal the ACA would have meant – it would have gutted protections for pre-existing conditions, left millions of folks and thousands within our district without healthcare, defunded Planned Parenthood, and created an age tax, allowing insurers to charge older adults up to five times more than younger people. Healthcare is a right we all deserve. It is shameful that Faso seems determined to undermine any and all attempts to expand that right to everyone. This is not about the government providing ‘everything.’ This is about standing up and accounting for the basic human dignity of everyone in our region.”
