Obituary, Carl A. Russell

Brasher Falls – Carl A. Russell, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 28, 2018, with the love of his family, supporting his final requests.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Carl was born on August 3, 1940 in Moira, son of the late David and Genevieve (Greenwood) Russell, Sr.  He graduated from Moira High School.  He married Shirley A. Taylor, “the love of his life” on April 15, 1961 at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls, with Rev. Bartholomew O’Connell and Rev. Timothy Ladden, celebrating. The shared a blessed union of 57 years, with undying love, friendship and a relationship built on respect for each other.

He was employed as a Therapy Aide, working for NYS Department of Mental Hygiene; at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center and Hudson River Psychiatric Center.  He also worked at Hunts Country Furniture in Wingdale.

He enjoyed tinkering on anything and was a skilled woodworker. He found comfort in his home and kept busy around the house making sure things were in order.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his son and daughter in law, Randolph and Maria Russell of Earltona, daughter in law, Lynn (Russell,Winters) of Granville, their special friends,Larry and Vanessa Oakes of Brasher Falls; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his son Wade A. Russell, Sr., his siblings, David, Harold, Gordon, Merchant, Ethel, Bertha and Beatrice.

Following Carl’s wishes, his family will commemorate his life privately.  Burial will be in South Dover Rural Cemetery in Wingdale.
