Three from Sharon Connecticut arrested for drug possession in Pleasant Valley

PRESS RELEASE

Pleasant Valley, New York – On June 26, 2018, the New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested three suspects from Sharon Connecticut for drug possession.  Clifford D. Akins, age 59, was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th degree, a class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree, a class D felony, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation.  Janet M. Kurland, age 39, was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation.  Rebecca Gonzalez, age 35, was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree.

On June 26, 2018, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Troopers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on a 2016 Subaru Impreza on Wigsten Road in the town of Pleasant Valley for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law.  Troopers detected the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle while interviewing the operator.  An investigation found approximately 5 grams of crack cocaine hidden in several places, drug paraphernalia, and a small amount of marijuana.

Atkins was arraigned before the town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.  Atkins is next scheduled to appear before the court on June 28, 2018, at 5:30 p.m.  Kurland and Gonzalez were both issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Pleasant Valley Court on July 24, 2017, at 5:00 p.m.
