Obituary, Arnold “Arnie” Gendron

 

Arnold “Arnie” Gendron, 79, of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 24, 2018, after a battle with cancer.

Born in Troy, NY on May 2, 1939, he was the son of the late Edward and Viola (Connor), Gendron.

He graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1957, where he was a Varsity Football Quarterback and attended Loyola University in Montreal, Quebec Canada where he majored in Physics. He joined IBM in 1959 as an Engineer, where he met the love of his life, his wife Diana. Throughout his career at IBM, he held various Engineering Program Management positions before he retired in 1994 after 35 years of service.

After retirement, he pursued his love if teaching and coaching, obtaining his Teaching Certificate at New Paltz University and went on to coach Football, Basketball and Baseball in the Spackenkill and Millbrook School districts.

As an avid sportsman and proud lifetime member of the Manchester Hunt Club, he enjoyed work party weekends at the Hunt Club Cabin, fishing, hunting and spending time with family in Lake George, NY.

Family was everything to Arnie, especially spending time with his granddaughters, who were the light of his life and called him Papa Arnie. He loved his yearly trips to Marco Island, Florida and summers in New England. He adored his wife Diana, who he was married to for 54 years before her passing in 2016.

He is survived by his two children Daughter Deirdre Gendron and her partner Michael Piccolomini of Mansfield, Massachusetts and Geoffrey Gendron and his wife Kimberly and their two children Miranda and Molly of Clinton Corners, NY.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 1 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at  3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 2 at 11:00 am from St. Joseph’s Church 15 North Ave., Millbrook, NY. Interment will follow in St Joseph’s Cemetery.
