Sheriff’s Office investigates one-car fatality in Washington

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a one-car fatal crash which occurred on Shunpike Road in the Town of Washington at approximately 9:00 am on 6/26/18.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2007 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Shunpike Road near Kennels Road when the operator lost control, after which the vehicle crossed over the center pavement markings and struck a tree on the northern shoulder. The operator and sole occupant, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene and identification is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin. The investigation is ongoing, however, at this time unsafe speed appears to be the primary factor in the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the crash and more information may be released as it becomes available. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, and the Millbrook Fire Department.
