Harckham Receives Support of Women’s Equality Party, New Castle Democrats & Up2US
Three New Endorsements Confirm Accelerating Campaign for NYS Senate District 40
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Mt. Kisco, NY June 18, 2018 – A new group of three political organizations active across Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties have announced their support for Pete Harckham, Democratic candidate in the New York State Senate District 40 race against incumbent Republican Terrence Murphy.
The Women’s Equality Party has announced its backing of Harckham. “We enthusiastically endorse Pete Harckham for State Senate,” said party chairwoman Susan Zimet. “This is a crucial moment in history for Women’s rights, both in defending against those who are trying to reverse the progress we’ve made over the last century and in advancing further reforms to ensure the fundamentals of women’s equality. Pete Harckham is the ally we need in the New York State Senate to fight this battle and we look forward to working with him to protect our rights,” she added.
In addition, two important organizations have announced their support of Harckham. The progressive grassroots group Up2Us has given Harckham its co-endorsement. Also, the New Castle Democratic Committee has voted to co-endorse Harckham as part of their efforts “to unseat two term Trump Republican Terrence Murphy, who has proposed repealing NY State law designed at prevent the mentally ill from gaining access to weapons and eliminating universal background checks, opposes women’s reproductive rights and who has blocked important civil rights legislation.”
“I’m grateful for the support of these activist Democratic organizations,” said Harckham. “A growing number of people across SD 40 are joining our campaign’s efforts to have an experienced legislator bring needed change to the NY State Senate.”
The new endorsements follow announcements of support last month from the Cortlandt Democratic Committee, Mount Kisco Democratic Committee, Pound Ridge Democratic Committee, Putnam County Democratic Committee, Somers Democratic Town Committee and the Working Families Party.
New York State Senate District 40 includes parts of Northern Westchester (Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Peekskill, Pleasantville, Pound Ridge, Sleepy Hollow, Somers, Yorktown) Putnam (Brewster, Carmel, Patterson, Southeast) and Dutchess (Beekman, Pawling).
