LHVPAN Endorses Progressive Candidates in Federal, State, and Local Primaries

The Lower Hudson Valley Progressive Action Network, a chapter of the New York Progressive Action Network, has endorsed nine progressive candidates running for office.
We have affirmed the choice of our parent organization in endorsing Cynthia Nixon and Jumaane Williams for Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of New York. Both candidates are tireless activists who have stood for their communities even when the political establishment stacked the odds against them. They will bring reform to an Albany that so desperately needs change.
We have endorsed Eliot Engel for re-election to New York’s 16th Congressional District. Congressman Engel has never strayed from his progressive values and commitment to progressive causes. Congressman Engel is a tireless advocate for progressive causes in Washington and we enthusiastically stand behind him as he continues his work in the face of a Republican majority in both Houses of Congress.
We have endorsed Alessandra Biaggi and Julie Goldberg for New York State Senate Districts 34 and 38, respectively. Both Biaggi and Goldberg are fearless progressive women who are running against the worst kind of Democrats—former IDC members who betrayed their constituents by allowing the Republicans to take control the State Senate and block a myriad of progressive bills, including the New York Health Act, from even coming up for a vote. Their victories will let representatives know that their constituents are watching them, and if representatives don’t have their constituents’ backs, they should expect a progressive challenger.
We have endorsed Robert Kesten for New York State Senate District 40. Kesten is running a bottom-up, grassroots campaign to oust a Trump-loving Republican who has failed to address the needs of his constituents by choosing to stick to his party’s line rather than work towards solutions to the opioid epidemic and the Indian-Point plant closing. Kesten’s willingness to challenge the traditional political wisdom and eschew the conventional understanding that money is the only path to viability makes him the most capable candidate to mobilize the grassroots energy of the “blue wave” to defeat Terrence Murphy.
We have endorsed Anthony Nicodemo for New York State Assembly District 90. Anthony is a coach, teacher, and labor leader who has steadfastly advocated for both the Yonkers and LGBT communities. He is the only progressive choice to succeed State Senator Shelley Mayer in representing the City of Yonkers in Albany.
We have endorsed Ossining Village Trustee Omar Herrera for Mayor of the Village of Ossining. Herrera is a capable and beloved leader in Ossining and is deftly in tune with the needs of one of the most diverse areas of Westchester County. He is the best choice to fight for the residents of Ossining.
We have endorsed Emmanuel Decaudin for Democratic State Committee Member for the 94th Assembly District in Westchester County. Millennials are predicted to be the largest voting bloc in upcoming elections.  Emmanuel is a young, energized progressive activist who aims to represent the voices of young people at the state Democratic Party’s top governing body. New York Democrats will be well served by having his capable progressive voice in the State Committee.

Kind Regards,
