On May 31, 2018, State Police arrested four suspects following an incident on the New York State Thruway in the town of New Paltz.
State Police observed a white Dodge Charger, speeding while traveling south on Interstate 87. Troopers initiated a traffic stop. As troopers approached the vehicle, three individuals fled the vehicle on foot.
Additional units arrived at the scene and an organized search ensued. At approximately 1 a.m. an individual matching a suspect description was located walking on the right shoulder of Interstate 87. He was identified as Robert Wannaker. He was detained and transported to the state police barracks in Newburgh.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. New Paltz Police observed two males on State Route 299 and South Ohioville Road in the town of New Paltz fitting the description of the suspects who fled on foot. They were observed getting into a Hyundai Sonata and were later taken into custody by The Town of New Paltz PD and New York State Police. The operator of the vehicle, Gregory Moore, was found to have a suspended New York driver’s license and was detained. Larry Brand, a passenger, assumed control of the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. The vehicle fled northbound on North Putt Corners Road. It was later located a short time later unoccupied at the corner of North Putt Corner Road and Horsenden Road. After an organized search the suspects were located and subsequently taken into custody.
All suspects were arraigned in the Town of New Paltz Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail. Dontayvus Thomas, Matthew King, and Robert Wannaker had bail set at $100,000/$100,000. Kayla Chevalier had bail set to $50,000/$50,000 with a future court date of June 5, 2018 at 6 p.m.
