Troopers make an arrest for a stolen gun while trying to help a disabled motorist on I-84

PRESS RELEASE

Southeast, New York – On May 25, 2018, the New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested Richard P. Kaley, age 61, of Nashua, NH, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class C felony, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, both class E felonies, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation.

On May 26, 2018, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Troopers observed and assisted a disabled motorist on Interstate 84 in the town of Southeast.  While interviewing the operator, Kaley, an odor of marijuana was detected.  Further investigation discovered approximately eight grams of marijuana and a loaded pistol that had been reported stolen in Ohio.

Kaley was arraigned before the town of Kent Court and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond.
