Obituary, Maryann Moyer Goe

 

Millbrook – Maryann Moyer Goe was born September 18, 1928, in Sharon, CT, the only child of Darwin Wesley Moyer and Wilhelmina Anna Woodin Moyer. After graduating from Housatonic Regional Valley High School in 1945, Maryann attended St. Joseph’s College of Nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, Syracuse, NY, receiving her RN degree in 1948. She worked as an RN at Sharon Hospital and then joined the Navy, holding the rank of Lieutenant JG. While stationed in San Diego, Maryann met Roderick L. “Bud” Goe and they were married August 1, 1951. After leaving the military they lived in Holmes Flat, CA where Bud was from before moving back east and settling in the Millbrook, NY area. Maryann worked as an RN at Sharon Hospital and Greer School, and later as an office nurse in private practice in Millbrook until retiring in 1994.

In 1995 Maryann had a life-changing event when she suffered a stroke. She accepted her loss of physical independence with grace. Bud was her loving caregiver until his unexpected passing on February 21, 2007. Maryann lived with her daughter Marie W. Goe Olson and son-in-law Thomas F. Olson in Noank, CT until 2010 when she moved to the Royal of Westerly Nursing Home in Westerly, RI. Maryann passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 28, 2018, never losing her sense of humor and signature smile.

Maryann was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. In addition to Marie and Tom, she is survived by her sons William D. Goe and his partner Kathryn S. Alm of Thornton, CO and Michael R. Goe and his wife Barbara R von Beust, of Winterthur, Switzerland, and by her grandson Gavin T. Olson of Mystic, CT and granddaughter Darin M. Olson of Boston, MA.
