UPDATE: Two pedestrians killed in a motor vehicle accident on State Route 52 in the town of Fishkill, New York

UPDATE: The New York State Police have concluded their investigation into Sunday night’s fatal motor vehicle accident.  State Police have determined the vehicle’s operator, Robert Mahone, 53, of Fishkill, who remained at the scene immediately after the collision, was not speeding, was not impaired by drugs or alcohol, nor was he issued any vehicle and traffic citations.

The New York State Police would like to thank the members of the Rombout and Glenham  Fire Departments and Mobile Life Ambulance for their assistance at the scene of the accident.

On March 25, 2018, at approximately 8:40 PM,  New York State Police Troopers from SP Wappinger were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 for the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle accident on Route 52, near Old Glenham Road, in the town of Fishkill.

The initial investigation revealed the driver, a 53-year-old Fishkill resident, was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon westbound on Route 52 in the center/turn lane of the three-lane road.

The vehicle’s operator failed to observe a mother and her four children attempting to cross the road from the north shoulder and struck them.

The mother, Zuleyma Lopez, 28, and one child, Abel E. Torres-Lopez, 10 months, were declared deceased at the scene.

The three remaining children were transported to Westchester Medical Center.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.
