Wingdale Pair Charged with Shoplifting

On February 24, 2018, at about 4:02 P.M., Deputy Edward Kennedy, from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, responded to the Shoprite, located on Route 52 in the Town of Carmel, for a reported shoplifter in custody.

Shoprite loss prevention personnel told the deputy he observed a male, 28-year-old Matthew B. Sehrt, and a female, 27-year-old Cynthia M. Gilroy, both of Wingdale, NY, select merchandise which Mr. Sehrt placed in Ms. Gilroy’s purse. Ms. Gilroy left the store without paying for the items. The loss prevention officer stopped the female and brought her back to the security office without incident.

Deputy Sheriff Christopher Tompkins also responded and located Mr. Sehrt in the parking lot and arrested him.

Both were charged with one count of Petit Larceny and one count of Conspiracy in the 6th degree. They were arraigned by the Honorable Judge Timothy Curtiss of the Town of Kent Justice Court and released on their own recognizance for a later court date in the Town of Carmel.
