State Police at Middletown recover stolen vehicle after pursuit

 During the week of February 19th, 2018 State Police at Middletown were made aware that a vehicle was stolen near Allentown, PA may be in the Middletown area.  The 2017 Nissan Altima had been stolen from a Dunkin Donuts in Allentown on  February 19, 2018.  Working with the city of Middletown Police, efforts were made to locate the vehicle.  On the afternoon of February 22, 2018, State Police patrolling Route 17m in the Town of Wallkill observed the vehicle.  Upon trying to stop the vehicle, it fled.  Troopers pursued the vehicle into the city of Middletown where it struck a city of Middletown marked police car.  The operator of the vehicle was taken into custody and has been identified as John Redner, age 44 of Middletown.  Redner was treated at Orange Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.  A Middletown City Police Officer was also treated at ORMC for minor injuries and released.

Redner, a NYS parole absconder was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, felonies.  He was also charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, misdemeanors.  He was arraigned in the Town of Wallkill Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail with no bail set.  State Police at Middletown were assisted by the City of Middletown Police Dept, State Police at Wurtsboro, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
