Obituary, Alexander Hutchinson

Millerton-  Alexander Hutchinson, 79, died unexpectedly on January 31, 2018, with his family at his side, at Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital, in La Crosse, Wisconsin following a fall on the ice.

Alex was born on May 9, 1938, in Sharon CT, to the late Anna (Hahne) and George Hutchinson.  He served his country in the army and was stationed in Germany, where he met his wife Hildegarde Trunk.  They were married in Chicago and later moved to his hometown, Millerton.

Alex owned his own commercial and house painting business but gave that up to become an over-the-road truck driver.  He worked as a car-carrier hauler for Ryder Corporation, initially as an employee and then later as an owner-operator until his retirement.

Alex loved hunting and was a member of the Millerton Gun Club and the Winona (MN) Sportsmen’s Club.  He was a former member of the Millerton Fire Department.

He loved all things cooking and had every cooking gadget invented.  He became a knife maker, forging his own Damascus blades and making his own knife handles.

Alex is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband, Keith Dennehy of Winona, MN; his brother Hollis Hutchinson and his wife Anna Marie of Anderson, SC; his brother Richard Hutchinson and his wife Rachel of Houston-area, TX; his sister-in-law Renate Trunk, Chicago IL; his aunt, Agnes Nowicki of Lakeville CT; and his two wonderful grandchildren Alex Dennehy of Winona and Kate Dennehy of Denver, CO.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother John Hutchinson.

A celebration of Alex’s life will be held this summer in Millerton.
