Obituary, Lisbeth P. Quartararo

Millbrook – Lisbeth P. Quartararo died January 27, 2018, at her home in Millbrook, NY.

Lisbeth was born in New York City in 1931. Her parents were Franklin and Elizabeth Peecook. She had three younger sisters, Francine, Lynn, and Mary.

Lisbeth graduated from Marymount Manhattan College, Class of 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature. After graduating, Lisbeth worked as a fashion model in New York City but discovered that her real interest lay behind the camera. For several years after modeling, she worked as an assistant to fashion photographer, Richard Beattie.

Lisbeth met her husband, Jack, in New York City and they were married on April 11, 1959. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Dutchess County where her husband founded Quartararo and Quartararo Law Firm in Poughkeepsie, NY. Lisbeth was an active volunteer, often serving as a board member, with many local civic and charitable organizations, including The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, The Dutchess County Department of Family Services and Hudson Valley Libraries.

Lisbeth and Jack traveled extensively. For over 30 years they had a home in Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas, where they spent the winter months. Lisbeth had a great love of literature and was a regular member of several private book clubs. Her love of words and wordplay inspired her to create the New York Times Crossword Puzzle Game. She was an equally passionate member of The Garden Club of America and enjoyed caring for the extensive gardens around her home in Millbrook. She also made the most of memberships at the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club, Palm Beach Polo Club, and the Tamarack Preserve.

Lisbeth is survived by her three sons, John, Paul and David, her sister Francine and nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie and the Millbrook Library.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 11 am at Grace Church, Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY.
