Obituary, Marjorie Walberg Chase

 

Pine Plains – Marjorie Walberg Chase died peacefully at home on December 31, 2017. She was born in Rhinebeck, NY January 7, 1929 the daughter of John E. and Martha (Warren) Walberg. She graduated from Rhinebeck High School and from Grasslands Hospital Nursing Program Westchester County. She married Clyde Ralston Chase in 1948. They made their home in Pine Plains where they raised their three sons and served the community. Marjorie was President of the PP Garden Club, President of Presbyterian Women’s Association, Church Elder, Library Board Trustee, Rescue Squad member, Eastern Star member, Evergreen Cemetery Board Trustee, and Cub Scout Den Mother. Marjorie also enjoyed oil painting, skiing, swimming at Stissing Lake and attending to her home and many gardens.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Clyde in 2011, brothers William, Robert, and Raymond Walberg and her sister Verna Hadley. She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Lynden (Barbara), Scott (Jeanne Valentine), Frank (Ann), her seven grandchildren Wesley, Claire, Madelin, Corbin, Mara, Nathaniel, and Max. She is also survived by six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, including Wanda Bohlinger.

She had the good fortune to remain at home even as her health failed her. Marjorie was thankful for the assistance of loving family, friends and neighbors who frequently visited and brought meals and for her extraordinary and loving caregivers Rita, Jessica, Pat, Autumn, and Nancy.

Burial will be private and a Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains on Thursday, January 4, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains, PO Box 313, Pine Plains 12567.
