Obituary, Virginia Draper

 

Virginia Draper died peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at her home in Heritage Village. She was the youngest daughter of Elizabeth Ferris Deady and Bertram Deady.

She was born in Pawling, New York on November 14, 1915 and later moved to Bronxville, NY where she graduated from High School. Upon graduation, she moved to New York City where she worked at the renowned needlepoint shop Alice Maynards and lived at the Barbizon Hotel, which at the time was exclusively for young ladies.

Virginia was a gifted person in the area of knitting and needlepoint and an avid reader. She loved golf above all sports and never missed an opportunity to get on the links. Volunteer work was important to her especially as an aide in hospitals and she later worked as a medical secretary.

Virginia was married in 1940 and will be missed by her daughter, Sara de Vengoechea and husband Manuel, her son, Thayer P. Draper Jr. and his wife Joan, as well as her grandchildren, Felipe de Vengoechea, Rafael de Vengoechea and his wife Aleece, and Helena de Vengoechea Rudd and her husband, Colin Rudd, Meredith Draper and John Draper. Her great grandchildren Dax, Carys, Leonor, Dahlia, Oliver and Antonio will also miss her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 21, 2017 from 2 – 3 P.M at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St., Woodbury, CT.
