State Police Haverstraw make arrest for Criminal Possession of Weapon

PRESS RELEASE

On 10/14/17, SP Haverstraw, Trooper Vanzetta conducted a vehicle stop of a 2012 Mercedes Benz, bearing NY registration HDT6648, for running a steady red light on SR 202, in the Town of Haverstraw. Upon approach of the operator of the vehicle, ANTHONY J. HOLEWINSKI, Trooper Vanzetta detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. Trooper Kelly of SP Haverstraw arrived on scene to assist along with members of the Town of Haverstraw PD, New York State Park Police and Rockland County S.O. As occupants were being asked to step out of the vehicle for an interview, Tpr. Vanzetta observed a loaded black 9mm Czech X54 handgun in plain view on the rear seat of the vehicle. Trooper Vanzetta also located a cigarette containing marijuana on the rear seat passenger, SARAH BENFARHAT. The suspects were placed under arrest and transported back to SP Haverstraw for processing.
