Obituary, Edith Mae Chase

 

Edith Mae Chase Wife, mother, grandmother, devoted homemaker Edith Mae (Fortier) Chase, of Plainfield, N.J., passed away peacefully on Sunday Oct. 1, 2017 at JFK Medical Center. She was the wife of Raymond Francis Chase, who was her devoted husband of 62 years. She was born on March 12, 1934, in Pawling, N.Y., the daughter of the late U. Edward Fortier and Gladys (Way) Fortier. She spent her early years in Amenia, N.Y., and later in Shrewsbury, Mass., where she graduated high school. Edith was a devoted homemaker and mother for her four children. She cherished the time she could share with her family and was especially happy when surrounded by her grand and great grandchildren. She was an avid collector of postcards and Toby jugs. She enjoyed cooking and knitting and was considered one of the best cooks in the neighborhood. She was passionate about the pets in her life, including her surviving companion, Toby. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Christine Alcorn of Worcester, Mass.; four children, Anita Bartgis and husband, Earl of Frederick, Md., Douglas Chase and wife, Susan of Winston-Salem, N.C., Cynthia Chase, and George Chase of N.J.; five grandchildren, Jessica Santos and husband, Jay, Elizabeth Tabbachino and husband, Vinny, Robert Chase, Travis Chase, Catherine Bartgis, and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Mason Santos. She was predeceased by her daughter, Frances Chase, and brother Edward Fortier. She will also be lovingly remembered by many dear friends. A memorial for family and friends to celebrate her life will be held at a future date in October. Expressions of sympathy may be offered at higginsfuneralhome.com.
