Fatal Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Hit and Run Accident

On 9/25/17 Livingston Troopers responded to a Columbia County 911 call for a reported serious injury truck vs. pedestrian hit and run accident on Main St. in the Village of Philmont.

The operator of the vehicle that fled the scene was located and identified as Jennifer McGrath-Jennings, 24 of Philmont.  The investigation by the Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Uniform Troopers revealed that Jennings, while backing the vehicle up, struck a female pedestrian in the parking lot of Family Dollar.

The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center by Greenport Rescue Squad where she succommbed to her injuries.

An investigation in partnership with Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka’s Office resulted in the arrest of McGrath-Jennings for Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd and Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident, both Class D Felonies; DWI and Reckless Driving, both Unclassified Misdemeanors; and Unsafe backing.

Arraignment is scheduled later this date in the Town of Claverack Court.
