SP Rhinebeck – Kingston man arrested for Forged Check

PRESS RELEASE
Kingston, New York – On September 5, 2017, the New York State Police from the Rhinebeck barracks arrested Lucas Martinez, age 25, of Kingston, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd a Class D Felony.

Martinez is employed as a mechanic at Mavis Tire in Rhinebeck, NY, and stole a personal check from a customer’s vehicle.  Martinez forged the signature on the check, made payable to himself, and cashed it at Wells Fargo Bank in the City of Kingston, stealing $550.00 from the customer’s account.  Wells Fargo Bank provided video surveillance of Martinez wearing his Mavis Tire Uniform and cashing the check.  Mavis Tire was made aware of this incident and has suspended Mr. Martinez until the case is adjudicated.

Martinez was arrested and then arraigned in the City of Kingston Justice Court where he was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2500 cash bail or $500 property bond.
