COLUMBIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO HEROIN DEALER
Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports a Cairo man was arrested for illegal drug activity in the Town of Germantown, Columbia County, New York.
The investigation focused on an individual who was distributing heroin in the southern area of Columbia County. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office Drug Education and Enforcement Unit arrested 25 year old Joseph Clark, of 25 Van Buren Drive, Cairo, New York, after they conducted a six week investigation that yielded valuable intelligence and evidence. On September 9th, 2017, Clark was stopped in his vehicle on State Route 9G in the Town of Germantown. Investigators executed search warrants which had previously been signed by both Columbia County Superior Court Justices Jonathan Nichols and Richard Koweek.
Clark was found to be in possession of approximately 27 grams of raw heroin, a Schedule 1 controlled substance. This amount of heroin on the street could make up approximately 700 individual doses or more and has an approximate street value of $3,000. Clark was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree for having more than one half ounce of an illegal narcotic drug. He was also charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree with the intent to sell an illegal narcotic drug. Both charges are Class B Felonies.
Clark was arraigned in the Town of Germantown and remanded to the Columbia County Jail pending a later court appearance.
