Obituary, Roy Alan Steed

Pine Plains-Roy Alan Steed, 69, a ten year resident of Pine Plains, NY passed away at The Thompson House in Rhinebeck, NY on August 16, 2017; after a difficult two year battle with cancer.

Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 19, 1948, he was the son of Edgar LeRoy Steed and Margaret Johanna (Gerken) Steed. After graduating from Poughkeepsie High School in 1967, Roy moved to Metuchen, New Jersey and later on to Cumberland, Rhode Island.

Roy’s employment revolved around electronics, early computer wiring, bridge traffic and lighting and later automated conveyor systems. After moving to Pine Plains, NY, Roy earned his Real Estate Broker’s License. Roy was an enthusiastic fisherman, a talented singer, an avid gardener and a gourmet cook. Roy loved to laugh, to tell jokes and build warm and cozy fires both outside and in the cottage wood stove.

Roy is survived by his Partner, Deborah (Doyle) MacConel of Pine Plains; his Daughter Jennifer Finnegan, her Husband Brendan and their children Tatum and Gavin of Plainville, Mass.; His Son Scott and Wife Michelle Maloney and their two children Zachary and Zoey of Browns Mills, NJ; Brother Ron Steed and Wife Marti (Doyle) Steed of Pine Plains, Brother Kevin Steed and Wife Michelle of Cary, NC; and Sister Linda Antun who resides in SC; Roy’s former wife, Terry Rudine who resides in North Attleboro, Mass; many loved neices and nephews and life long friends.

A private ceremony will take place at the convenience of family and friends at Fishermen’s Warf in Point Pleasant, Rhode Island where he enjoyed deep sea fishing with his many friends.

Memorial donations in memory of Roy may be made to Breast Cancer Research, C/O Weill Cornell Breast Center, 425 E 61 St. #8, NY, NY 10065 where Roy received innovative state of the art and personal compassionate care from Anne Moore, MD and the entire professional staff.
