Legal Notice: MCSD Tax Warrant

MILLBROOK CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
TAX WARRANT

2017 – 2018

To the Tax Collectors of the Millbrook Central School District, County of Dutchess, New York State:

YOU ARE HEREBY COMMANDED:

1. To give notice and start tax collection on September 1, 2017, in accordance with the previsions of Sections 1322 and 1366 of the Real Property Tax Law.

2. To give notice that tax collection will end October 31, 2017.

3. To collect taxes in the total sum of $23,684,119 in the same manner that collectors are authorized to collect town and county taxes in accordance with provisions of Section 1318 of the Real Property Tax Law.

4. To make changes or alterations in this tax warrant or the attached tax rolls but shall return the same to the Board of Education. The Board may recall its warrant and tax roll for correction of errors or omissions in accordance with the provisions of Section 1316 of the Real Property Tax Law.

5. To forward, by mail, to each owner of real property listed on the tax rolls, within ten (10) days after the start of collection, a statement of taxes due on his/her property on press-numbered tax bills forms provided by the School District in accordance with the provisions of Section 922 of the Real Property Tax Law, as well as a statement that the taxes may be paid in two (2) installments, the first installment due and payable by September 15, 2017, together with a service charge in the amount of five percent (5%) of the first installment to be paid to the School District, and the second installment due and payable by March 15, 2018, together with a service charge in the amount of five percent (5%) of the second installment, to be paid to the Dutchess County Finance Commissioner. To forward by mail, without interest penalties, to the Office of the County Treasurer, a detailed tax bill of all state land parcels liable for taxes on the school tax rolls in accordance with the provisions of Section 540 of the Real Property Tax Law.

6. To receive from each of the taxable corporations and natural persons, the sums listed on the attached tax rolls without penalties when such sums are paid before the end of the first month of the tax collection period; but with a service charge in the amount of five percent (5%) of the total tax bill if the taxpayer opts to pay such school taxes in installments and to account for such sums on account of such charge as income due Dutchess County. To add two percent (2%) interest penalties to all taxes collected during the second month of the tax collection period and to account for such as income due to the School District.

7. To issue receipts, when requested, in acknowledgement of receipt of payment of taxes, and to retain, preserve and file copies of all such receipts issued, as required issued, as required by Section 986 of the Real Property Tax Law.

8. To promptly return this warrant at its expiration, together with a list of the names of the owners of real property who have elected to pay their taxes in installments; and if any taxes on the attached tax rolls shall be unpaid at that time, deliver an accounting thereof on forms showing by town, the assessed valuation, tax rate, total tax levy, total amounts collected, and the total amounts remaining uncollected as required by Section 1330 of the Real Property Tax Law.

This warrant is issued pursuant to Sections 910, 912 and 914 of the Real Property Tax Law and is delivered in accordance with Sections 1306 and 1218 of this law. It is effective immediately after it is properly signed by the majority of the members of the Board of Education. This warrant shall expire on the date stated above, unless a renewal of extensions has been endorsed on the face of this warrant, in writing, in accordance with Section 318, Subdivision 2 of the Real Property Tax Law.

The Board of Education of the Millbrook Central School District, County of Dutchess, State of New York, authorizes Cheryl Sprague, as Tax Collector for the 2017-2018 school year, bonded by Northern Insuring Agency, to collect taxes beginning September 1, 2017 to October 31, 2017, in the amount of $22,896,896.06 and Margaret Schmitz, as Town of LaGrange Tax Collector for the 2017-2018 school year, bonded by the Town of LaGrange, to collect taxes, beginning September 1, 2017 to October 31, 2017 in the amount $787,222.94 (includes cents).

If total amount paid:
Late penalty of two percent (2%) charged after thirty (30) days.
September 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017 – No penalty.
October 1, 2017 to October 31, 2017 – 2% late penalty.

If elects to pay taxes in two (2) installments:

Five percent (5%) service charge on installment, paid with each installment of school taxes.

First installment due by September 15, 2017. Second installment due by March 15, 2018. Second installment may not be paid until the first installment, any interest due, has been paid. After March 15, 2018, penalty and interest shall accrue pursuant to the Real Property Tax Law 924A.
