CANDIDATES WANTED: There is still time to run for The Pawling Village Board.

By Jeff Millian

Anyone wishing to run as an Independent candidate can still do it but time is running OUT!  If you have an interest in serving your community, bringing fiscal accountability to our local government and making Pawling a better place for the future – RUN FOR OFFICE.

Any registered voter in the Village of Pawling can run for Mayor or one of the two Village board member positions on the ballot this year.  Each Village Board member has an equal vote on very important issues that affect our quality of life and future viability as a municipality.

Most people agree that taxes are too high and our town is stagnating.  Pawling needs to be a place for the future where families can live and work and have a voice in decisions made by our local government – decisions that affect our quality of life and our mutual prosperity.

If you are a civic minded person who can make the commitment needed for this part time role – RUN FOR OFFICE.

Remember that you need to be a VILLAGE resident to run for the Village Board.

You can get the process started right now!  Here is the form you need to print on LEGAL size paper.

https://www.elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/download/law/IndependentNomPetChapter246Change.pdf

You need to collect about 50 signatures of other registered voters in the Village of Pawling over the next week.  All signatures need to be collected with a WITNESS who is also a registered voter in the Village of Pawling (who has not already signed a petition for that same Village office) or a Notary Public.

The signatures need to be complete with names and addresses and the form filled out and dated with the witness signature.  These forms MUST be delivered by close of business (5pm) Tuesday, August 22nd to the Dutchess County Board of Elections – 47 Cannon St, Poughkeepsie.

Note: anyone interested in pursuing an independent nomination now should call the Dutchess County

Board of Elections (845 486 2473) for detailed information on the legal requirements.
