Workers protest “The Grand” in Pawling

On Thursday July 6th 50 plus workers protested that for 3 years, 1199SEIU members have been trying to address frequent turnover, safe staffing and its connection to quality care, through contract negotiations.  Below market union wages, unaffordable health benefits and persistent disrespect for those who take care of the residents has resulted in a revolving door of workers, because even the most dedicated nursing home workers must be able to make a living and care for themselves and their families. 1199 members are questioning how The Grand at Pawling can provide continuity of care to residents, when staff over is frequent.

Management has responded to the healthcare workers’ efforts to bargain a collective bargaining agreement that ensures a fair workplace with livable wages and affordable benefits by placing obstacles in the way of a settlement at every opportunity.

1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East is the largest and fastest-growing healthcare union in America. We represent over 400,000 nurses and caregivers throughout Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Florida.
