Two car fatality in Rhinebeck

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a two-car fatal auto accident which occurred on 6/3/17 at approximately 10:00 am on Slate Quarry Rd in the Town of Rhinebeck. On the above date and time Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Slate Quarry Rd near White Schoolhouse Rd for a report of a serious crash, and upon arrival observed it to be a two-car crash with one person seriously injured. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2001 Ford Taurus driven by Kathi E. Norklun (age 65 of Kingston) was traveling eastbound on Slate Quarry Rd when it crossed over the center pavement markings and was struck head-on by a westbound 2010 Nissan Murano. Ms. Norklun suffered serious injuries, and was transported to Northern Dutchess Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Ms. Norklun was the only occupant of her vehicle and the other vehicle had three occupants, all of which were transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. At this time no charges have been filed, and appears as though Ms. Norklun was not wearing a safety belt.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the Rhinebeck Fire Department, the Rhinecliff Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics. The investigation into the crash is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be released as it becomes available.
