Patterson Fire

Via Patterson Fire Department

At approximately 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 03, 2017, the Patterson Fire Department was dispatched to an open burn turned brush fire on Old Route 22 in Patterson, NY.

Our tanker / tender, designated 22-4-2, and our brush truck, designated 22-3-2, responded to the scene to find a brush fire burning perilously close to a residence. Hoses were quickly stretched to the fire from both apparatus to prevent the fire from igniting the house while Putnam Lake FD’s Assistant Chief facilitated with Incident Command.

While a motorcycle and the house had already suffered radiant heat damage, we were able to save the house and prevent further damage to the motorcycle.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the Patterson Fire Department’s Fire Police kept Old Route 22 closed between Old Road and Route 22, for about an hour, while the fire was extinguished.

New York State residents should be aware that the burning of brush is BANNED from March 16 to May 14 EVERY YEAR, due to the high risk / rapid spread of brush fires.
