Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation Tops $3 Million in Spring Grants Cycle
Sheffield, Mass. — Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation today announced the recipients of its first round of grantmaking for 2017. The foundation distributed nearly $380,000 in grants to individuals, school communities and nonprofits in the four-county region it serves, and over $2.7 million in grants from donors with charitable funds at the foundation.
In northeast Dutchess County, the foundation awarded grants from the Dover Education Enrichment Program; Oppenheimer Environmental Fund; Sustaining Education Enrichment and Development Fund; and Webutuck Quest for Excellence Fund.
Education and Enrichment: Grants to regional schools, school districts, teachers and organizations with educational programs in Columbia County totaled $8,300. Select grants include: $2,160 for an SAT prep course at Stissing Mountain High School; $1,250 for a literacy workshop for parents of Webutuck Elementary School students; and $700 to implement STEM activities at Dover Elementary School.
Arts and Culture: Grants to local artists, arts organizations and arts programs totaled $4,000. Grants include: $1,460 for Dover Middle School students to see a Broadway show in New York City; $1,440 to improve the lighting and production of Dover High School’s show, “The Dover Daily”; and $1,000 for the Wassaic Project to produce student-made calendars at Webutuck Elementary School.
Health and Human Services: Grants to nonprofits and programs providing social and human services totaled $2,500. Grants include: $1,500 for health and physical education at Dover Middle School; and $1,000 to Town of Dover Lions Club to cover annual vision screenings for Wingdale Elementary School students.
Environment: Grants to environmental organizations and projects totaled $2,800. Grants include: $1,200 to maintain the Dover Union Free School District’s greenhouse; $1,000 to support a multi-year educational partnership between Webutuck Central School District and the Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies; and $600 for Dover Elementary School’s community garden.
