State Police arrest Kinderhook man for assault subsequent to domestic disturbance

Kinderhook, New York – On March 21, 2017, New York State Police from the Kinderhook barracks arrested Jeffrey L. Vanalstyne, age 58, of Kinderhook, New York, for Assault in the 2^nd Degree, a Class D Felony, and Criminal Mischief 4^th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

At approximately 1:52 a.m., Troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 for a reported 911 hang-up call with a female heard screaming in the background for help. With no location given to 911 dispatchers by the caller, Troopers repeatedly attempted to re-contact the caller to render police assistance.  An investigation led police to McCagg Road where the female victim was located with several visible injuries.  Pursuant to an investigation conducted by responding members it was discovered that Vanalstyne and the victim had engaged in a verbal domestic dispute that turned physical. The victim attempted to contact 911 on several occasions but Vanalstyne terminated the phone calls for help. Vanalstyne was placed in custody and the victim was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Valatie Rescue Squad.

Vanalstyne was charged with Assault in the 3^rd degree and Criminal Mischief 4^th Degree.  He was arraigned before the Town of Kinderhook Judge Dellahunt and released on his own recognizance.

Troopers proceeded to Columbia Memorial Hospital to follow-up with the victim.  Upon their arrival, they learned that she had been transported to Albany Medical Center due to the severity of her injuries, including several broken bones.

Vanalstyne was taken into custody and arraigned on the upgraded charge of Assault 2^ndDegree as a result of the victim’s medical evaluation.  Judge Dellahunt remanded Vanalstyne to the Columbia County Jail without bail.  Vanalstyne is due to appear in the Town of Kinderhook Court at a later date and time.

The State Police were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
