Wappinger, New York – On March 22, 2017, New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks arrested 29-year-old Robert A. Huzar, of Hopewell, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, a Class D Felony.

In December of 2016, Troopers were contacted by two Dutchess County men who reported that they were victims of a crime that occurred between October and November of 2016.  The victims reported that Huzar, an acquaintance, had asked them to cash checks for him since he did not have a bank account.  Several days later, the victims reported having the checks returned because the bank account that the checks were drawn on was closed. An investigation revealed that Huzar had stolen the checks from a family member and forged them.  As a result, the victims had lost over $275, each.

Huzar was arraigned in the Town of Fishkill Court before Judge Harold Epstein and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.  Huzar’s next court appearance is scheduled in the Village of Wappinger Falls Court on March 27, 2017.  The investigation is on-going and additional criminal charges are pending against Huzar.

The State Police were assisted by the Town of Fishkill Police Department.
